TANZANIA southern circuit

The Tanzania Southern Circuit is located near the southern borders of the country, closer to the famous city of Dar es Salaam. The Southern Circuit parks provide a very calm atmosphere compared to Northern Circuit Parks which are very busy during the high seasons of safaris. Every year, the park welcomes visitors from all corners of the world who look to explore tranquil places to encounter the largely untouched vistas and a wide variety of safari activities including water-based safari activities, incredible game drives, and exploring the major historical sites of the Southern Circuit.

Selous game reserve(Now Nyerere National Park)

45,000 square kilometers in size, there is no vacation long enough to cover the Selous Game Reserve. It all depends on the time you have to spare for a venture into this vast wildlife reserve… anything from 3-10 days can be personalized for you. The Selous is home to some of the densest populations of big game such as elephant, hippo, buffalo & crocodile. There are abundant species of game, birds and plants to be seen and some exciting fishing to be enjoyed. The Selous is rich in history and the remote wilderness always instills a sense of going back in time.

Generally, the Selous Game Reserve is one of the very few places in Africa where it’s possible to view wildlife from the water, and after the dust and bumpy roads of a game drive, there’s nothing more relaxing that drifting along the river watching the wildlife.

Tanzania’s Wildest – Ruaha National Park

Ruaha is second only to the Serengeti in size. The Ruaha River which flows through the park is a wildlife magnet, especially during the dry season when it is the only source of water. Survival of the fittest is played out on a daily basis and water is the driving force. Situated in central Tanzania, there is a mix of northern and southern species that is not found elsewhere. Kudu, Roan, Gazelle, Sable, Dikdik are found in large numbers along with Buffalo, Elephant, Lion, Leopard and many more. A 3–7 day safari is suitable for Ruaha and can be personalized for you. Tanzania’s central highlands will remind you that although seemingly abundant and thriving, wildlife is exactly what it is – wild!

City’s Closest – Mikumi National Park

Mikumi is one of the most underrated parks in the country. A comfortable four hour drive from Dar es salaam and you are among herds of animals. Facilities are first class and four of the big five are resident in the park along with plenty of other species. Being so close to Dar es salaam, even a one night excursion is worthwhile, but anything from 3-5 days is a more appropriate stay. Mikumi is typical of southern Tanzania’s terrain, but with more open spaces. It is easy to get around and offers good visibility of game. It is an exciting and affordable game viewing safari with all the makings of the more famous northern parks.
